Pros for P.I.N.K. – Brier Creek Country Club

Matt Rink from Brier Creek Country Club in Raleigh, North Carolina has been instrumental in the success of their annual Play for P.I.N.K. fundraiser. Having such a close connection to the disease, the event is extremely meaningful.

Several people in my life have battled cancer, including my two sisters. One had breast cancer and has been cancer free for over ten years and the other is now going through the process and, fortunately, it was detected early. Our Ladies Golf Association has done a great job over the years. In 2018, they raised $27,000 even with the golf portion being canceled due to a hurricane. Our community has donated nearly $100,000 in the last five years! Money is raised in a variety of ways. We do mulligans, string, and throw packages for each group. We also have hole-in-one prizes and the Professionals hit a drive on one of the Par 5s and a shot on one of our Par 3s over the water. The contests include, long drives, longest putts, closest to the pin, best dressed and best golf cart makeover. In addition, tennis and board game tournaments have been added to the day. We even had a breast screening bus available to the contestants. Our event is very successful as the golf portion sells out almost every year. Since we are a private club, extending the invitation to guests along with more advertisement could increase participation. It is one of my favorite events to take part in as the money raised goes to a very good cause, one that is close to my heart.
