Pros for P.I.N.K. – Preakness Hills Country Club

Having been personally touched by cancer, Michael Docktor, Head Golf Professional at Preakness Hills Country Club in New Jersey knows the importance of funding research.  We are pleased to feature Michael as our November Pro for P.I.N.K.

In the summer of 2015, my father was diagnosed with Mantel Cell Lymphoma and in December of that year he was sent to Yale New Haven Hospital for Chemo Treatment. It was a tough time for myself and my family, but my father was mentally strong and knew he was going to come out of it fine. After a year of consistent treatment, he was given a clean bill of health and was put in remission. He continues to get preventative shots every two months, but the hardest part has now passed. My father would say the part that kept him the strongest was the constant support of his family — having people around you that care about you makes the process more manageable.

Events like Play for P.I.N.K. are so important because it reminds everyone that there are other families out there going through the same situation. By raising money and awareness, you help these families and future families. Preakness Hills CC is a club that continuously wants to raise money. Fortunately, our entire membership wants to be a part of this event and we find ways for all members to contribute. Preakness Hills CC does a great job of offering different avenues to contribute and some of those ways are through 18 holes of golf, 9 holes of golf, having a ladies’ card game, ladies’ tennis tournament, or by allowing those who can’t come to the event to purchase a sign with their name on it to show their support.

Members aren’t the only way to gain participation either. From a member participation standpoint, we continue to have great success but considering the addition of guests would certainly increase the total number of participants. The battle against Cancer goes further than just our Country Club and I can see friends or other family members of our Members wanting to get involved and support our Play for P.I.N.K. Event. Preakness Hills CC is proud of the money we raised in 2018 and the amount of participation we had club wide. We look forward to growing our Play for P.I.N.K. Event in 2019!
