Pros for P.I.N.K. – Gleneagles Country Club

Joe DeMino, Director of Golf and PGA Pro at Gleneagles Country Club in Delray Beach, Florida has been an incredible source of support to Play for P.I.N.K. over the years. You can read his story following the tribute from Doris Budow, Play for P.I.N.K. National Advisory Board member and member of Gleneagles:

Joe DeMino is deeply involved and committed to making Play for P.I.N.K. at Gleneagles Country Club a success. There is nothing he won’t do to make our two-day event a time to remember. He has supported our women’s golf day and the recent inclusion of a men’s day. Joe arranged for both golf courses to be used so more golfers can participate and more money can be raised. He had the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Pink SUV delivered on the day of our event. Joe encourages all golfers to participate because it is a fun day and an opportunity to raise money for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation!!! He even has all of the golf staff wear pink shirts. In support of our Silent Auction, Joe has encouraged other golf communities to donate foursomes which we auction off resulting in additional revenue. Joe has brought his wife and mother-in-law to our Boutique and Silent Auction. He has spoken at our yearly South Florida meeting in November held at our club and made himself available to other Pros, to share how they can increase participation at their clubs. Joe DeMino is a special guy and a wonderful asset to the Gleneagles Community. We are so lucky he is our Director of Golf!

Here is Joe’s story about Play for P.I.N.K.: My wife’s best friend of 30 years is 58 and suffers from pancreatic cancer. My mom passed away from a brain tumor at age 64. An employee here at Gleneagles had to resign from his position due to pancreatic cancer and has since passed. As employees, we’ve seen many of our Gleneagles members battle cancer. Their struggle touches and affects all of us.

At our Play for P.I.N.K. event, the biggest success was reaching out to fellow clubs for gift certificates for foursomes of golf and lunch. Besides the certificates we also reach out to our sales reps for golf balls, golf bags, or anything they can donate to be included in a raffle/silent auction. The Golf Pros at Gleneagles also provide certificates for a free lesson. In addition, our ladies have an awesome boutique sale where all the money from items purchased go straight to Play for P.I.N.K.

Gleneagles’ Play for P.I.N.K. enjoys tremendous participation from our membership. One of the things we did was to include our 9-hole ladies. We have them go at 10:00 in the morning, so they all finish together for lunch. By doing this, we increased the field by 60-70 ladies. The day before the ladies, we host a Men’s Play for P.I.N.K. Over 150 men come out to support this wonderful cause.

Being part of Play for P.I.N.K. has had a big impact on me. It’s really one of those things in life that makes you feel as if you are helping in the search for a cure to a devastating disease. Every year I reach out to the Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office and one of their officers brings down their Pink cancer SUV that all cancer survivors can sign. For our entire community, both on site and off, Play for P.I.N.K. is a do good, feel good event. Its success is a tremendous source of pride for all of us.
