Pros for P.I.N.K. – Shelter Rock Tennis and Country Club

As a breast cancer survivor, Robin Deitch-Nogrady of Shelter Rock Tennis and Country Club in Manhasset, New York knows firsthand the the importance of funding research and the impact it had on her treatment.  We are honored to feature her story for July.

In January 2013, I was diagnosed with breast cancer.  After treatment and time off to heal, I resumed teaching. When the President of my club asked me to run a tournament for a cancer charity of my choice, I chose Play for P.I.N.K. In addition to entry fees, we sold banners to hang on the courts and gathered raffles, vendors, and sponsors. Most meaningful was our “ball on the wall”. People could purchase a ball and write a message on it. These were placed on the fence next to the show court for everyone to see and read. We’re an all tennis club and I’m proud to say all 20 courts were fully subscribed for two separate sessions. This is an amazing event that is the highlight of the season for our members. And for me.
