Pedaling for Play for P.I.N.K.

Team Mary, Ben & Charlotte

We will be pedaling for breast cancer research as a family for Play for P.I.N.K. from August 15 to September 15 in our neighborhood.  We hope you will consider donating to breast cancer research and also joining us by riding, walking or doing any kind of sport you like in your own neighborhood on the weekend of September 5th and 6th (Labor Day).  You can make a direct donation to Play for P.I.N.K. on this page and any amount is greatly appreciated.  100% of the money donated here goes to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF) to help speed advances in breast cancer detection, treatment and survivorship.

Every single day, we are grateful for the life-saving research Play for P.I.N.K. and BCRF fund.  February 2020 marked 5 years since I was diagnosed with breast cancer at age 36 in 2015.  Charlotte was only 2 years old at the time and is now a wonderful, talented, kind, enthusiastic 8-year-old.  We are truly grateful for every moment together.

Usually during the summer, Ben, my dad (George) and my mom (Catherine) and I look forward to The Sizzling Hot Pink Saratoga Hat Luncheon, which typically raises well over  $100,000 for Play for P.I.N.K / BCRF. This year, like many wonderful fundraising events around the globe, this important event was postponed due to COVID-19 concerns.  We wanted to do something as a family to help raise more money for breast cancer research.  Bicycling together seemed like the perfect way to raise money for research through Play for P.I.N.K.

When I was undergoing chemotherapy for breast cancer in 2015, Ben and Charlotte gave me a bicycle for Mother’s Day. I still remember Charlotte saying, “There is a surprise in the basement for you…it’s a BICYCLE!” Slowly but surely we started to go on short family bicycle rides around our neighborhood.  Five years later, cycling is a huge part of my daily life and our family life thanks to the support of Ben and Charlotte and the encouragement of my wonderful oncologist at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, who is also an avid cyclist.

Thank you very much for your support for Play for P.I.N.K. and BCRF.  We can’t say enough about these excellent organizations and their leaders – Stephanie Hamburger, Myra Biblowit and Dr. Larry Norton – and the work they do and the work researchers and healthcare workers do every single day to help save lives.

With Love,
Mary, Ben and Charlotte
