For many years, the membership of Addison Reserve Country Club in Delray Beach, Florida has supported the work of Play for P.I.N.K. This month, we are pleased to feature their Director of Golf, Karen Sherman-Lavin as our December Pro. Here is Karen’s story:
I was asked if I’ve been personally impacted by cancer. My father-in-law passed away from breast cancer. We forget that women are not the only ones affected by this disease and I’m proud of the fact that Play for P.I.N.K. funds the largest international study of male breast cancer.
At Addison, we always have a terrific turnout for our Play for P.I.N.K. event. Aside from entry fees, our fundraising includes mulligans, a 50/50, and closest to the pin. We have a “Precious Jewels” booklet and a card event. The most important part of putting on a day like this is to have a very active committee to assist in building the participation and the excitement.
For me, this is always a do good/feel good day. The past few years we have asked that survivors or people undergoing treatment stand and be recognized. I am always moved by the amount of people who have been through this struggle.
